Oceania Liveaboards

Australia

Spoilsport The Great Barrier Reef has to be one of the World’s premier diving spots, suited to those seeking pelagic; deep walls; wreck diving or shark action. Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, long established leaders in Australia’s dive scene, offer unsurpassed standards onboard their dive vessels.

The superb Spoilsport is Australia’s leading Liveaboard vessel, boasting exceptional comfort. 100ft long, it has 15 cabins of which there are four gradings – budget; economy; standard and premium. Budget and economy cabins have over and under bunks beds and share a bathroom between two cabins. Standard cabins have twin beds and share a bathroom between two and premium cabins have double beds with private en-suite facilities.

Papua New Guinea

5* Spirit of Nuigini rsz_spirit_of_nuiginiOur guests will find complete facilities for the serious and discerning divers ranging from roomy dive decks to an easily accessible dive-platform.

Amenitiesde fresh towels daily, coffee/tea making station, individually controlled air-conditioning in each stateroom.

The vessel is crewed by experienced local and international staff and her operations managed by people with extensive experience in cruise ship and hotel mana and facilities inclugement who are dedicated divers themselves.

Spirit of Niugini has accommodations for 16 passengers in 8 staterooms. Two double and two twin cabins on the main deck, 2 twin cabins on the forward lower deck and 2 more twin cabins on the aft lower deck. All have private head and shower. Each room is fitted with standard queen or twin sized beds, carpeted and tastefully furnished. Facilities include piped-in music, reading lights, wardrobe, hair-dryer and plenty of storage space. Our guests will find complete facilities for the serious and discerning divers ranging from roomy dive decks to an easily accessible dive-platform.

MV Chartan The world’s most exotic diving destination has a new attraction. She is the M.V. Chertan, a purpose-built dive boat which has begun operations out of Alotau in Milne Bay and is equipped with a full complement of crew which includes your host and divemaster Rob van der Loos. The Chertan introduces a term many intrepid divers are unfamiliar with – luxury. The vessel is the culmination of a dream for Rob who’s had 30 years exploring the blue, clear waters of Milne Bay and beyond: it has given him a unique insight into the wonders of the area.

On board Chertan the living is easy. One of the most memorable “post diving” experiences is the food, where freshness is the key to describing the rich offerings of the region. A cruise on Chertan offers unlimited diving for the enthusiast as well as an introduction to the local culture. Our itineraries are all about adventure, challenge and discovery in conditions that few have experienced. From dugouts to dugongs, from plunging coral drop-offs to towering volcanic mountains, skull caves and thermal springs, from hammerhead sharks to manta rays, the region is truly unique.

MV FeBrina

© Peter Lange

MV FeBrina was purchased by her current owners, Max Benjamin and Alan Raabe, in 1991.  At the time, FeBrina was a fishing and diving charter vessel operating out of Gladstone, Australia.  Prior to delivering the boat from Australia to Papua New Guinea, the boat was totally refurbished to cater especially for divers and underwater photographers.

Since that time, there have been many changes to FeBrina, including the addition of an upper deck and relocation of the wheelhouse from main deck to upper deck, total rebuild of the forward cabins to 3 x ensuite cabins and total re-power of the boat with replacement of main engines and generators.
Today, MV FeBrina is 73 feet of liveaboard comfort and convenience.  She is a stable and extremely seaworthy motor vessel, well set out and catering for serious divers and photographers who want a total PNG dive experience.
FeBrina’s crew are locally trained as divers, and they specialise in combining excellent service and meals in combination with the ultimate diving experience.  The crew are friendly and humble, always ready to offer a smile and a helping hand.  They are extraordinarily good “spotters” often pointing out elusive and rarely seen critters, much to everyone’s delight.
The boat has 7 comfortable, individually air conditioned cabins in various configurations, catering for a maximum of 12 guests.   The dive deck is well set out and diving couldn’t be easier, donning your gear at the dive consoles and entering the water via the water level duckboard.

One giant stride and you are immediately enveloped in yet another extraordinary diving experience! MV Sepik Spirit The “MV SEPIK SPIRIT”, constructed in 1989, is built to the specifications to suit the demands of a shallow draft expeditionary vessel for navigating inland waterways. Its shallow draft allows passage into remote corners of the Sepik Region and areas not otherwise accessible to larger vessels.

The “SEPIK SPIRIT” complies with the most rigid of safety standards including both the American Bureau of Shipping and Papua New Guinea safety regulations. Refurbished in early-2006 to ensure that the SEPIK SPIRIT meets the expectations of the modern traveller. The refurbishment includes new interior and improved noise insulation. The SEPIK SPIRIT accommodates 18 passengers in 9 twin bedrooms each with private bathroom. Onboard facilities include a dining room, lounge, bar, video and covered upper observatory deck. The entire vessel is air-conditioned. Because the SEPIK SPIRIT is custom designed for the rigors of operating in this unique environment, she is the ideal size for exploration. This, combined with small passenger numbers allows the traveller an intimate experience to little visited areas.

Micronesia

Truk

Palau

Ocean Hunter 1  The Ocean Hunter I has been specifically designed by divers, for divers. Unlimited diving is conducted off a spacious diving platform at the stern of the boat and hardly ever off a chase boat (so you can climb right back onto the boat when you’re done and take a warm freshwater shower!). Ocean Hunter I has three cabins with private bath and a/c, and accommodates up to 6 guests, which means un crowded reefs, ease of entry into the water, personal attention and maximized bottom time.

Furthermore, the vessel is designed for professional underwater photography, with a big working area and more than 60 electrical outlets (110 and 220 volt), extra storage space, and E-6 processing available overnight. NITROX tanks and certification are available onboard. Our chef serves fresh low-fat gourmet cuisine. Built by the pioneer divers of Palau for others to explore Palau’s waters, reefs, caves and wrecks for themselves in comfort and intimate luxury, Ocean Hunter I provides a high-class, unrivalled liveaboard experience for diving the true Palau. Please note that since we take only 6 divers, we are very flexible and customize the itinerary for each diver. We’ve had guests that have had 6 dives a day and some that were interested in 3 dives a day only.

Ocean Hunter 3  Welcome to Ocean Hunter III, the latest addition to the Ocean Hunter Fleet in Palau.  The boat will represent 25 years of knowledge in the liveaboard industry and like all of our liveaboards was designed by divers, for divers.  Ocean Hunter III will be diving the reefs of Palau, plus special trips to places such as Yap. Built on the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi, she is a traditional “gaft rigged Phinisi” handcrafted from ironwood and teak. The Komodo National Park is home to a rare diversity of animals; wild deer, water buffalo and monkeys roam the undulating hills making prey for a population of the world’s largest lizard, the famous Komodo dragon. The morning time songs of Yellow-crested cockatoos and Nicobar pigeons make a wonderful start to your day. Komodo offers world class diving and snorkeling in an amazing variety of sites with walls, coral gardens, pinnacles, drop offs as well as quiet bays for macro photographers seeking rarely seen critters in black volcanic sand. Komodo is blessed by a through flow of currents and cold water upwellings flowing to and from the Indian Ocean providing nutrient rich waters where swathes of soft corals, sponges, ascidians and clouds of brightly coloured fish thrive. When the current´s right exhilarating blue water, fish soup diving with explosions of fusiliers, trevallies, sharks and other pelagic fish will leave you mesmerized for hours. Hang out with congregations of Manta Rays while they feed, clean and dance on the shallow reefs and rock formations. The Mermaid liveaboard fleet makes departures from Benoa Harbor, Bali, Indonesia.
