MV Chartan The world’s most exotic diving destination has a new attraction. She is the M.V. Chertan, a purpose-built dive boat which has begun operations out of Alotau in Milne Bay and is equipped with a full complement of crew which includes your host and divemaster Rob van der Loos. The Chertan introduces a term many intrepid divers are unfamiliar with – luxury. The vessel is the culmination of a dream for Rob who’s had 30 years exploring the blue, clear waters of Milne Bay and beyond: it has given him a unique insight into the wonders of the area.

On board Chertan the living is easy. One of the most memorable “post diving” experiences is the food, where freshness is the key to describing the rich offerings of the region. A cruise on Chertan offers unlimited diving for the enthusiast as well as an introduction to the local culture. Our itineraries are all about adventure, challenge and discovery in conditions that few have experienced. From dugouts to dugongs, from plunging coral drop-offs to towering volcanic mountains, skull caves and thermal springs, from hammerhead sharks to manta rays, the region is truly unique.

MV FeBrina

© Peter Lange

MV FeBrina was purchased by her current owners, Max Benjamin and Alan Raabe, in 1991.  At the time, FeBrina was a fishing and diving charter vessel operating out of Gladstone, Australia.  Prior to delivering the boat from Australia to Papua New Guinea, the boat was totally refurbished to cater especially for divers and underwater photographers.

Since that time, there have been many changes to FeBrina, including the addition of an upper deck and relocation of the wheelhouse from main deck to upper deck, total rebuild of the forward cabins to 3 x ensuite cabins and total re-power of the boat with replacement of main engines and generators.
Today, MV FeBrina is 73 feet of liveaboard comfort and convenience.  She is a stable and extremely seaworthy motor vessel, well set out and catering for serious divers and photographers who want a total PNG dive experience.
FeBrina’s crew are locally trained as divers, and they specialise in combining excellent service and meals in combination with the ultimate diving experience.  The crew are friendly and humble, always ready to offer a smile and a helping hand.  They are extraordinarily good “spotters” often pointing out elusive and rarely seen critters, much to everyone’s delight.
The boat has 7 comfortable, individually air conditioned cabins in various configurations, catering for a maximum of 12 guests.   The dive deck is well set out and diving couldn’t be easier, donning your gear at the dive consoles and entering the water via the water level duckboard.

One giant stride and you are immediately enveloped in yet another extraordinary diving experience! MV Sepik Spirit The “MV SEPIK SPIRIT”, constructed in 1989, is built to the specifications to suit the demands of a shallow draft expeditionary vessel for navigating inland waterways. Its shallow draft allows passage into remote corners of the Sepik Region and areas not otherwise accessible to larger vessels.

The “SEPIK SPIRIT” complies with the most rigid of safety standards including both the American Bureau of Shipping and Papua New Guinea safety regulations. Refurbished in early-2006 to ensure that the SEPIK SPIRIT meets the expectations of the modern traveller. The refurbishment includes new interior and improved noise insulation. The SEPIK SPIRIT accommodates 18 passengers in 9 twin bedrooms each with private bathroom. Onboard facilities include a dining room, lounge, bar, video and covered upper observatory deck. The entire vessel is air-conditioned. Because the SEPIK SPIRIT is custom designed for the rigors of operating in this unique environment, she is the ideal size for exploration. This, combined with small passenger numbers allows the traveller an intimate experience to little visited areas.
