Apartamento Marri, Tuscany

Why stay at Apartamento Marri?

A well-appointed and luxurious two bedroom, self-catering apartment in a palazzo, nestled right in the heart of Cortona. From here, there are views that look over to Montepulciano, of vino noble fame, and westwards to the hills around Pienza and Siena.

The entrance to the apartment is just a few metres up a narrow alley, Vicolo della Notte, which leads off the main street, Via Nazionale. Via Nazionale is traffic free and is given over to cafés, restaurants and shops – from local food stores to designer clothes, art, antiques and bookshops; a lively, friendly place.

Apartamento Marri is located on the first floor of the palazzo; it is only a few steps up to the entrance, since the door is on avicolo – a narrow, sloping street that is a common feature in Cortona.

Apartamento Marri has a large main room with windows looking out over the street; there is comfortable seating, a dining area, and the kitchen is found at the other end. The property has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom; one of the sofas is also a single sofa-bed, making the apartment suitable for a maximum of five guests. The furnishings are stylish and antique; the apartment is opposite the owner’s family antique business. There are two bathrooms, one with bath and shower, and the other with shower only.

This is a wonderful place to enjoy an Italian walled city – the historical architecture of Cortona goes back to the 12th to 16th Centuries, and has remained intact across the years. Parking in the area starts about two-hundred metres away.

It is close to Lake Trasimeno, where there are ferries to the islands and to other towns on its shores. The Perugia to Siena fast road is a few kilometres away, giving great access to both Tuscany and Umbria. Perugia is less than half an hour, and Siena is about fifty minutes.

Montepulciano, Cortona, Assisi and many other places in Tuscany and Umbria are quite close. There is a station, with parking in the valley below, with trains to Florence, Rome, Arezzo, Orvieto, Perugia and many other places. Italian trains are regular and punctual with low fares.
