Eilat is Israel’s most Southerly point enjoying a warm desert climate, flanked by majestic mountains and the glistening waters of the Red Sea. Eilat, which can now be reached directly from London, with Wizz Air flights operating twice weekly from Luton, is known as the original Red Sea resort. The turquoise waters of the Red Sea, home to some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs, offer snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming opportunities galore. Eilat is one of the safest places to learn to dive with safe, easy access from a sloping beach into an incredible underwater garden. There are plenty of other attractions on offer, including quad biking and hiking amid spectacular desert scenery, VAT-free shopping and an aquarium.
There is plenty to keep families entertained in Eilat as well – apart from the beaches, there’s Dolphin Reef, where you can snorkel or dive with semi-wild dolphins, the opportunity to see a variety of sea creatures at Coral World and the Underwater Observatory, where you can see the wonders beneath the waves of the Red Sea without getting your feet wet.
Eilat is easy to get around, with most of the sights within walking distance of each other, and taxis are cheap and easy to find. For those wanting to explore a little further on their holiday, there are numerous excursions available locally including trips into the desert and mountains and Dead Sea.
