Villa Vitellino, Umbria

Why stay at Villa Vitellino?

Villa Vitellino is built with a Tuscan aesthetic popular in the 19th Century – square, tall and spacious. The owners have created a luxurious interior with lavish and comfortable furnishings, and a landscaped garden to the highest standard. The views are good in all directions – from over Lake Trasimeno to the hills of Umbria and the eastern Appenines, the famous hill town of Cortona to the western h ills of Tuscany looking towards Montepulciano and Siena.

It is ideally located for an Italian vacation with b oth Umbria and Tuscany being easily accessed by car and train. From the local station, Florence and Rome – as well as Orvieto and Arezzo – are easy day trips; Siena is just over half an hour by car. On the ground floor, there is a large, fully-equipped kitchen. From here, a wide arch opens into the spacious open-plan dining room, which also has a small alcoved study off to one side.

From this alcoved study, there is access to an upstairs sitting room and a second, smaller, fully-equipped kitchen. This room can also be accessed from the garden via outer steps and a small loggia/terrace. The rest of this floor is home to three bedrooms – two en-suite bedrooms; one twin and one double. The third bedroom is a double, and is found opposite a bathroom that comes off the sitting room.

Each room is furnished comfortably and in good taste. Entertainment facilities in the villa include satellite TV and DVD player. The pool is 10×5 metres and is set in a lawned garden with mature Tuscan pines, among which you can find a beautiful pergola. There are lots of shaded places to sit and admire the views over the Tuscany and Umbria countrside. It is close to Castiglione del Lago – a place that has long been catering to the English “gentry”, with splendid cafes in its piazzas, restaurants, shops etc.

There are also ferries to the Isola Maggiore on Lake Trasimeno, which is a haven of peace and tranquillity as well as good restaurants. From the island other ferries go to other parts of the lake, including the Umbria resort town of Passignano. The Tuscany hill town of Montepulciano is to the west, famous for its vino nobile and with many wine tasting opportunities; Cortona is just a twenty-minute drive.
