FUERTEVENTURA - INTRODUCTION Introduction | Hotels | Dive Centres | Late Offers
Fuerteventura is the oldest and the most easterly of the Canary Islands and is only 60 miles from the coast of Morocco. It is also the second largest Canary Island and almost 60 miles in length. Its spectacular golden natural beaches lie side-by-side with stunning eroded coves which have taken the full force of the Atlantic tide for millions of years. The beaches of Fuerteventura are the largest in the Canary Islands and some of the best in the entire world. This is due to its geographical position allowing the Sahara to deposit sand onto its shores since the past tens of thousands of years. The island compromises 150 different beaches, interesting inland walks, sheltered coves, wild coastlines and many white washed villages. Corralejo is the main and largest resort on Fuerteventura. This charming area is the home of more than eleven kilometres of beautiful beach and offers the liveliest nightlife. It has grown up around an idyllic fishing port, which still offers the sight of fishermen returning daily with their catch and where many excellent restaurants offer memorable fresh seafood meals. Caleta De Fuste, known locally as Castillo, is particularly well suited to family holidays. It is a stunning resort with a sweeping, crescent-shaped beach, which is especially popular with windsurfers and a picturesque harbour, protected by a breakwater offering perfect bathing and sunbathing conditions is perfect for ultimate relaxation. Castillo offers splendid water sport facilities and generally the most relaxed friendly and welcoming atmosphere including a colourful traditional market. Known locally as 'the forest', Costa Calma is a beautiful resort. It is the only place on Fuerteventura where you will find semi-tropical woodland and it is a small, up-market resort that is especially popular with couples looking for a haven of relaxation. You will also find some excellent restaurants and bars and a remarkably magnificent beach, which is 32 kilometres of soft golden sand.
