Day 1-2 : Lima
We depart from London on the overnight flight to Lima via Madrid, arriving on Day 2. Upon arrival the group will be met by our Tour Leader and check into our hotel, where we stay for 1 night at the Jose Antonio Hotel. After an introduction briefing we have the afternoon free to explore the city.
Day 3 : Arequipa
This morning we take a flight from Lima to Arequipa, the White City, where we stay overnight at La Plazuela Hotel. We take a tour of its colonial centre, admiring the Spanish style architecture, before a visit to the Santa Catalina Convent. Established in 1579 and famed for its brightly coloured interiors, there are still some 20 nuns living there today.(B)
Day 4-6 : Colca Canyon
We make an early start today to travel by road to the Colca Canyon, where we stay for 2 nights at the Casa Andina Hotel in the small town of Chivay. Carved out of the landscape by the Colca river it is the world’s deepest canyon, and is still inhabited by traditional communities who farm on pre-Inca terraces either side of the valley. Group excursions over the two days will include visits to the local villages as well as to the Cruz del Condor, where you will have a chance to see the Andean Condor in its natural habitat. (B,L,D)
Day 6-7 : Puno
Today we continue by road across the open landscape of the altiplano to Puno, on the shore of Lake Titicaca, where we stay at the Casa Andina Tikarani for 2 nights. The following day as a group we will visit the islands of Uros and Taquile to discover the local indigenous culture and see their colourful costumes. (B,L)
Day 8-10 : Sacred Valley of the Incas
Boarding the bus this morning we journey across the high plains, during which we make several sightseeing visits as well as stopping for a buffet lunch. We arrive in the evening in Cusco and transfer to The Sacred valley of the Incas, where we stay at the Posada del Inca hotel for 3 nights. We explore the Sacred Valley where we visit local markets and communities as well as ancient ruins.
Day 11-12 : Machu Picchu
In the morning we set off by train towards, Machu Picchu, the Citadel of the Incas. We have a guided group tour of the site in the afternoon, and are able to explore until evening when we stay overnight at El Mapi Hotel in Aguas Calientes. (B,L,D) The following day we have free time to return to the site, before our afternoon train back to Cusco, where we stay for 3 nights.(B)
Day 13-14 : Cusco
We take a tour of Cusco, centre of the Inca empire, and discover their incredible masonry in the foundations of the city’s buildings, as well as the surrounding ruins. The following day is at leisure, to explore Cusco at your own pace, before taking the afternoon flight and staying overnight at the Airport Hotel in Lima. (B)
Day 15 : Return Journey home
In the morning we board our flight, and fly home arriving on Day 16. (B)
