CAIRO

The largest city in Africa is one of the most vibrant, exciting capital cities in the world. The major sites are the towering pyramids and the majestic sphinx which are based in Giza, a few miles west of the city’s centre. The Egyptian Museum, based right in the city centre, is home to many of Egypt’s ancient riches, such as the treasures of Tutankhamun. The Coptic Quarter and the bustling bazaars of Khan El Khalili are well worth a visit.

LUXOR

Standing on the site of the ancient city of Thebes, this wonderful city is extremely rich in antiquities. You can either stay in a hotel, and use this as a base to explore the area, or you can take a leisurely cruise along the Nile. Major sites along the Nile include the Valley of the Kings, burial place of Tutankhamen and other Pharaohs, and the Valley of the Queens, home to Queen Nefertari, favourite wife of Ramses II. You may also visit the Luxor temple, Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo. Aswan, home to the High Dam and Philae Temple, will be your final destination on a shorter cruise, or a 7 night cruise will take you back to Luxor. Abu Simbel, Egypt’s greatest ancient treasure after the Pyramids is reached either by road or air from Aswan.
