SCOPELLO - INTRODUCTION

MapA small medieval hamlet to the west of Sicily with an African flavour of the island, offering a truly authentic Sicilian atmosphere with cultural evidence of Moorish, Greek, Roman and even Norman settlements from bygone times.

The Nature Reserve of Lo Zingaro enchants the walker with its stark beauty and the intensity of its colours in all seasons. It has five miles of coastline, and steep cliffs plunging sheer into the sea from heights of up to three thousand feet, turquoise sea, small white coves. Brilliant colours of the spring and autumn flowers in the pastures, golden mantle of the mountain slopes in summer and the harmonious shape of the cottages complete the picture.

Most of the villas in our portfolio enjoy the stunning coastal scenery and have access to secluded beaches.

Within an easy drive there is a world of antiquity to be discovered: from the Hellenic temple and amphitheatre of Segesta, to the medieval town of Erice, Trapani and the beautiful Egadi Islands. Not to forget Marsala, famous for its delicious sweet wine or Selinunte, the most westerly of the Hellenic colonies...

WELCOME PACK - We can provide, on your arrival in our Scopello villas, a welcome pack with typical Sicilian specialities and milk, bread, brioches and juice. The price is €160 for a party of 4.

DIVING

Lo ZingaroUnderwater in the Nature Reserve of Lo Zingaro you’ll find one of the most
spectacular dives in the Mediterranean, with a limestone chamber decorated with stalactites and a mirror-like ceiling to the end of this enormous cavern.

There are also two wrecks – ‘Capua’ a II World War Battleship, lies upright and intact. Clouds of anthias habit this wreck along with resident conger and moray eels. The deck is broken in places inviting exploration, boxes of ammunition being one of the untouchable treasures inside.

The wreck of the ‘Kent’, a 1973 wreck, is deep but not to be missed. The enormous cargo hold is a trap for sponges and anemones, which now replace much of the original cargo:
- thousands of copies of the ‘Koran’.

THE DIVE CENTRE

Cetaria dive centre is based at the “Tonnara” of Scopello, once an active Tuna factory, set in the most striking scenery of rock pinnacles towering from the azure waters.
