Cortona Apartments in an ancient restored Palazzo

Cortona

Photos L-R: The Historic Cortona town hall in the central piazza. The vicolo leading to the appartamenti Mimini. Another view of the piazza.

Cortona is the most easterly of the Tuscan hill towns. The walled town is essentially unchanged in appearance since the streets and palazzi were finished in the fifteenth century. Large areas are reserved for pedestrians throughout the day making a relaxed though bustling atmosphere. It is packed with cafes spilling out onto the many piazza and the via Nazionale with its many shops and galleries. The Etruscan museum has priceless artifacts going back to the pre-Roman origins of Cortona and the surrounding area. The main art museum has the "Annunciation" by Fra Angelico and other paintings of Cortonese artists particularly Luca Signorelli.

A regular bus service links Cortona to the rail station on a mainline to Florence, Rome as well as Perugia, Arezzo, Assisi, Orvieto. Siena is 50 miles to the west on a good road. From the Piazza Garibaldi the view takes in Lake Trasimeno and the hills of Montepulciano (Vino Nobile) and Pienza. The A1 autostrada is 20 minutes away.

Appartamento Marri

A well appointed luxury two bedroom apartment right in the heart of the walled town of Cortona.
The entrance to the apartment is just a few metres up Vicolo della Notte off the via Nazionale which is a traffic free street given over to cafes, restaurants and shops, from local food stores to designer clothes, art, antiques and bookshops; a lively, friendly place.

After the few metres up the vicolo and eight steps inside the door, the apartment is on the first floor of the palazzo. It has a big main room with windows over the street, comfortable seating, a dining area and a kitchen area at the other end.
There is a double bedroom and a bedroom with two beds. One of the sofas is also a single sofa-bed. Maximum - five guests. Furnishing is stylish and antique; the apartment is opposite the owner's family antique business.

There are two bathrooms. There are large windows looking down over the narrow street and the stone buildings typical of the 15th Century. This is a wonderful place to enjoy an Italian walled city. Parking areas start about 200 metres away.
