Teverina Bassa
A house and apartments in a hidden valley, east of Cortona
Teverina was formerly a commune (Italian 'borough') in its own right but is now part of the commune of Cortona.
When the new road from Cortona was built in the nineteenth century it cut off what is now Teverina Bassa, leaving a small community in unspoilt countryside.
Teverina Bassa has scattered farmhouses and an imposing stone palazzo, Caselle, formerly the home of a noble family with schoolroom, chapel and apartments for the priest and school teacher. Half of the building is now charming and well equipped four apartments with traditional features.
On the way to the properties you pass the old church with attached convent (now semi ruined but about to be restored). A beautiful location about 12 miles from the magnificent Cortona.
We rent the house, Casa
Fabbri, and the three apartments in Caselle.
The two houses are about a quarter of a mile apart. Between the
two, is the owners farmhouse and a shared pool.
A feature of Teverina Bassa today is that it has no through traffic and is an idyllic, tranquil country outpost.
Casa Fabbri is a house within a complex of farm buildings which also has two other separate houses. However, Casa Fabbri is quite private and even has its own garden area.
It has a living/sitting room and a kitchen, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs.
Upstairs, one large double bedroom leads onto the fourth double bedroom. There is central heating (extra charge).
Externally, there is paving
for outside tables etc as well as the
private garden and the nearby pool (about 150 yards away).
Caselle is lower down the hillside. Apartments 2 and 3 are available to us in 2005, the other two being rented out by the family.There is a garden area at the other side of the building in addition to the pool area which is just fifty yards away.
Apartment 1: Opens on to a long and large living room with a kitchen. One double bedroom is connected to a second double bedroom. A third double bedroom is separate.
The washing machine is in the bathroom which has a tub with shower attachment.
It does not have central heating but there is a superb fireplace.
Apartment 2: Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen-living room.
Apartment 3: Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen-living room.
