COCOS
ISLAND and MALPELO
| Escape
to Cocos Island - a lush, green uninhabited island resting 600km
off Costa Rica's
Pacific coast. Cocos Island is the largest uninhabited island in
the world. To have the opportunity to dive and visit this unique
paradise is a dream come true.
Rocky
pinnacles surrounding Cocos are beacons for large pelagic animals,
particularly schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks. White tip reef
sharks, rays and mantas are abundant, as are schools of tuna, jack
and snapper. Whales sharks, dolphins and turtles are frequently
sighted. Most of the action is between 15 and 30 metres with visibility
in the 25-30-metre range.
Water
temperatures average between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius, with cooler
thermoclines. All diving around the Cocos Islands is drift diving.
The diving can be challenging due to the island's rugged topography
and currents. This trip is recommended for more experienced divers.
May
to October is considered the best time to dive at Cocos, but conditions
are generally very good throughout the year.

SEA HUNTER &
The
Sea Hunter Fleet is ultimate in liveaboards' comfort and convenience.
They are a dedicated modern dive cruiser that has been specifically
built for long-range dive expeditions to destinations like Cocos
Island and Malpelo. A former commercial dive support vessel, she
was robustly built in 1980 to serve the oil industry in the Gulf
of Mexico . In 1994 we purchased Sea Hunter and through eight months
of extensive renovation and refurbishing, turned the boat into the
striking vessel she is today. A superbly comfortable, stable and
spacious vessel with everything a serious diver/photographer could
wish. She is now a rare hybrid that combines the large working platform
and powerful machinery of a functional workboat, with the comfortable
and functional interior of a modern luxury yacht.
Sea
Hunter and her crew specialize in providing excellence in service,
food, and underwater excitement. She has eight cabins for a total
capacity of 18 passengers, all with private bath. Dive facilities
are extremely well designed with individual gear storage, private
camera/strobe storage shelves including individual 110-volt AC power,
and a private dryer for clients' towels and bathing suits. Her spacious
layout and user friendliness has introduced divers, as well as underwater
professionals(photographers & cinematographers) to an entirely
new concept in live-aboard. |

UNDERSEA HUNTER
The research vessel Undersea
Hunter was built in Florida in 1968 for Perry Oceanographic and
was used for twenty years as a submarine support vessel. Working
primarily in the Bahamas and the Caribbean , she completed hundreds
of research and photographic missions including the Deep Rover Project
with Dr. Sylvia Earle. Undersea Hunter's closest brush with fame
- so far - was her participation as support vessel for the James
Bond movie "License to Kill."
We bought the Undersea Hunter
in June, 1990, and spent five months refurbishing her from stem
to stern. Already a capable and well-proven research vessel, the
Undersea Hunter was modified to include six new cabins, built with
conveniences that surpass all expectations, to accommodate 14 passengers.
With fuel capacity of 40
tons and water tankage of 26 tons, her blue water capability is
almost unlimited. Under the guiding hands of Avi Klapfer and Yosy
Naaman, the Undersea Hunter is dedicated to bringing civilized comfort
to the delightfully uncivilized gems like Cocos Island .
