THE SULTANATE OF OMAN - MUSCAT

Muscat | Musandam | Liveaboards

Oman is a stunning country both on land and underwater. Beyond the colorful waters of Muscat lies a vast country to explore. From its beaches to its high plateaus, there are so many forts, isolated villages, pottery souks, wadis, sand dunes and hidden date plantations to discover that you probably won't have time to see them all in one trip!

Oman is not only a place of outstanding beauty; it is also a safe and fairly free country. There are no major concerns walking around on your own, even when visiting the souks. There are no restrictions for female visitors regarding dress code, but it is definitely best to avoid very short skirts and overly generous décolleté!
The only restrictions apply when visiting mosques -in particular the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque- where both men and women must wear a long sleeved top and trousers (or skirt) to enter. Women will be asked to cover their head with a scarf.

Oman Dive Center, run by Extra Divers Worldwide is a unique dive resort with a dive center, dive school, traditional Omani style accommodation, seaside restaurant and beach bar.

Just a short ride away from Muscat's historical center, Oman Dive Center is nestled inside one of the bays of Bandar Jussa.

The Odyssey Restaurant overlooks the azure bay and boasts fine cuisine for guests to enjoy on its terrace or inside its large air-conditioned rooms.

The Dive Center is a hub of activity for divers and non-divers alike. Diving courses, fun dives, snorkeling trips, kayaks, body boards, dolphin watching trips, coastal tours and even sunset cruises.

On this site you will find comprehensive information about different dive spots excursions around Muscat and side activities like trekking, climbing and desert experiences.

The 30 Barasti huts are directly situated on the beach among a sea of desert plants and flowers. Each Barasti is a spacious double room with its very own open air bathroom and shaded terrace as well as air conditioning, fan, safety box and mini bar. The walls of the open air bathrooms are built with rocks from the surrounding mountains and the front terrace provides the ideal setting to sip a glass of wine before dinner. In line with ecological concerns, the Barasti huts of the ecolodge are built in traditional Omani style. Similar huts are found in fishing villages along the coast as well as in the date plantations of Jabal Akhdar.

The waters surrounding Muscat provide fine tropical coral sea diving and the nutrient-rich water attracts a wide variety and quantity of marine life: 85 genera of hard and soft corals are found here including table corals, beautiful black coral, colorful whip and teddy-bear corals. Certain endemic species of coral grow and reproduce only here, in this very unique plankton rich environment.

Water temperatures range from 22°C in winter to 30°C in summer, with a thermocline at around 15m to cool you off during the summer’s hotter months.
Visibility can reach 30 meters, although at times the massive presence of plankton reduces it notably. However, even when visibility is low, the sheer abundance and variety of species in Muscat waters is enough to keep divers coming back.

Oman Dive Center is an SSI training facility. SSI is one of the largest and most reputable scuba training agencies in the world and complies with the strict safety standards dictated by the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC). Your SSI certification is accepted worldwide. ODC qualified instructors teach all kinds of courses from beginner level up to the professional level of Dive Control Specialist.
